Out of Context?
Prior to a candidate forum for the 25th Congressional District race, Democrat Cenk Uygur said that statements he made about women, which led to the retraction of a major endorsement, were made years ago and were "taken out of context."
Uyger was endorsed briefly by presidential candidate Bernie Sanders who retracted the action after a wave of criticism triggered by past comments Ugyur made about women.
So, were those comments really taken "out of context"? According to Collins Dictionary:
If a statement or remark is quoted out of context, the circumstances in which it was said are not correctly reported, so that it seems to mean something different from the meaning that was intended.
In our judgment, the first part of Uyger's statement is true, the comments were made long ago. There were at least two in 2002, another in 2003 and more recently on Twitter in 2013, but out of context? Not so.
